MaLu's first great Love
This morning MaLu's family woke up before sunrise. MaLu's elephant grandpa had solemnly awakened them with an elephant song. They have their last breakfast together before the great pilgrimage of the animals begins. MaLu is very excided, as his elephant parents have told him a lot about the other animals, which are said to exist, too.

All the elephants keep an eye on MaLu so that he is not overlooked by other animals and hurt, for MaLu is very small, still. At first MaLu does not see any other animals. He only hears a lot of new sounds and cannot place them. MaLu thinks that the wandering is very exhausting. However, everything is different during a feeding break. They are at a river and they not only drink the water, but they also spray it onto each other. MaLu really has a great time!

MaLu does not get to eat because he marvels at all the different animals which pass them. MaLu only makes a lot of noises his family laughs about loudly: ahhh, ohhh, hmmm. Wow. He thinks that the zebras are especially funny and asks them who painted them so beautifully. MaLu also wants to have that. And then there are so many thin legs and MaLu finds that to be strange. So many legs, but no stomach and no head, either. Until MaLu lifts his head and sees the giraffes, which eat the leaves from a tree.

All of a sudden MaLu notices that somebody is on his back merrily humming along. This something seems to dance on his back. Suddenly it starts to slip and lands with a loud cry right in front of MaLu on the floor. It is the little she-monkey Bambu. MaLu is at once fascinated by her. Bambu climbs on MaLu's trunk and slides down. MaLu has to laugh about the touch as it tickles him.

Immediately his elephant friends, who are all older than he is, tell him that it is not normal for an elephant to be friends with a she-monkey. MaLu frowns and does not understand once again why the older ones always have to complicate things. MaLu asks his friends if they have ever had a friend who is a monkey. Nobody has. MaLu tells them that it is nice, for monkeys have hands they make him laugh with. Curiously MaLu's friends now ask Bambu to slide down their trunks, too, and sure enough each of his friends begins to laugh. MaLu laughs, too. And so they all laugh together.
